Welcome to my Home Page.
My name is Floyd Allen and this is ….well, I’m not exactly sure what it is just yet.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
It’s a work in progress, that’s for sure; much like a road construction site, where drivers passing by do not yet have a complete picture of what the finished project will look like, or where the pavement will lead to exactly.
There’s heavy machinery going to and fro, and striped barricades with amber lights flashing 24/7; there’s construction workers with hard harts wearing bright orange or yellow high-viz vests; in some sections there’s busted-up concrete waiting to be tossed into the back of a dump truck by a front-loader and hauled away to the nearest landfill ; there’s other sections that look like rebar has been installed waiting for concrete to be poured or gravel to be dumped; maybe they’ll see wooden two-by-fours laid in place in preparation for whatever the next step is.
Whatever they see, they know the project is not completely done yet.
The reason it’s not yet complete is because I’m not really sure what the finished project is going to look like, myself, yet; and that’s because the project is of relatively recent origin.
It started out as a page I initially intended to use for musical purposes, in a manner similar to how the Soundcloud.com site is set up, but, with far more flexibility in regards to how I wanted my pages to look, and in what order to list my songs, and other considerations.
Musicians
Specifically, it was intended to be a place to upload my audio files in my search for musicians to jam with.
I would place and/or respond to ads on Craigslist, Bandmix.com, and other places hosting classified ads, and plan to play at open mics and what-not.
That was the plan when I was still employed at a company I had been at for almost 20 years until the economics of the real world forced my boss to close the doors for good in 2016.
Since that time, I’ve encountered some forks in the road that forced me into some decisions that I had not previously anticipated having to make.
Blogging
Eventually, I decided to use this site to focus more on the written word in the form of blogging, than in the expression of music—although, for the time being, I do plan on writing about musical topics.
I’m just not going to limit my subject matter to just music, which was the original plan.
Ultimately, I envision myself establishing a whole new domain for more professional, business usage, but, for now, I’m going to use this site to write on more personal, introspective subject matter.
I’ve named it floydallen-reflections.com, and I will occasionally abbreviate it to “FAR.com”, with the key word being “reflections”, mainly because the writing will be “reflective” or “introspective” is some way.
In other words, things that are personal—as opposed to “professional” or “business”-oriented.
My guess?
By the time I reach a definitive decision and establish an official goal, I ( and my site ) will have gone through three stages : [1] music; [2] personal blogging; and, finally [3] professional blogging.
I suppose you could consider the current stage of this blog as “Stage 2”, with Stage 3 still pending.
For the time being, my interests will include :
I—The Paranormal
Paranormal
[a] the paranormal—things that are deemed among the “unexplained” and/or creepy would be included in that list of areas to be explored.
On the one hand, I’d have to say that out of every ten paranormal stories one might hear being told, all ten are complete bullshit—either they’re deliberately made up by someone trying to get in their Warholian “15 minutes of fame”, or are innocently created by someone who has merely misinterpreted otherwise-explainable incidents with an overactive imagination.
On the other hand, if you increase that lot to, say, 100 stories, there’s likely going to be at least two stories that have some merit to them.
A—Among The Topics That WILL Be Explored will be :
[1] hauntings and poltergeists; [2] precognition and retrocognition; [3] extrasensory perception (ESP); [4] clairvoyance; [5] bilocation; [6] astral projection; and [7] psychokinesis.
B—Among Stories That Will NOT Be Covered are :
Tarot Cards / Fortune-Telling
[a] “psychic readings” or “fortune telling” simply because the people who engage in those practices are virtually always people who charge money for their “services”, and if there’s a profit motive involved, I’m guessing they’re as genuine as a $3 bill;.
Ouija Boards & Séances
[b] Séances or “conjuring up spirits“—Although I do feature one Leonard Nimoy-narrated story involving a woman named Sylvia Brown, who “contacted one restless spirit”, it is a general rule of mine that I also avoid the parade of psychics who claim to have the ability to “conjure up spirits” via séance, simply because I don’t believe that, if spirits actually do exist, that they do “cameos” if you say the “magic words”;
I would think life forces such as mystically-intangible entities would have to be a tad more complicated than just being disembodied “performers” looking to be invited onto a stage of sorts to do a “skit” of pretend conversation.
Sasquatch
[c] Nor is cryptozoology (e.g., Bigfoot and Loch Ness Sea Monster) included in the list, simply because if such creatures do exist, they’re simply zoology that we haven’t yet captured and studied, but their existence doesn’t belong in the group pertaining to ESP and psychokensis as far as I’m concerned; nor…
[d] …do I include close encounters and UFO‘s in this particular category simply because they’re classified among the topics pertaining to the cosmos, which is extraterrestrial, yes. But supernatural? No.
But I do intend on exploring those topics, as well—in the cosmos category.
As far as the rest of this category of topics is concerned, think of it this way :
If Rod Serling or Leonard Nimoy would have narrated the stories, there’s a good chance that I would find enjoyment in covering those stories in one of my posts.
II—The Cosmos
The Cosmos
[b] cosmic possibilities—space is so huge that the things that are possible can only boggle the mind.
Just the size of the universe—all by itself—as a topic, is mind-blowingly amazing!
There are locations that are so far away, that even traveling at the speed of light ( 186,000 miles per SECOND! ) we couldn’t get there in a million years!
Black holes, worm holes, the mere size of some planets and stars, among other topics will be discussed.
III—Real World Oddities
Real World Oddities
[c] real world oddities—of the unexplained artifacts of recent and distant historical events, such as the structures that can’t be explained, odd parallels with creepy twists, or even just plain old unexplainable events.
IV—Science Reality & Fiction
Time Travel
[d] science reality and science fiction—everything from the positives of the “Jetson”-like inventions of jet packs and hover cars to the negatives of the dystopian future that awaits us with robots, AI ( artificial intelligence ) digital everything (including digital currency) artificial intelligence, 5G, and 24/7 video surveillance, all of which threatens to shape our Big Brother-like, all-seeing “eye in the sky” future
V—Introspection
Self Analysis
[e] Personal and introspective topics—mostly personal memories ( some happy and some sad) and perspectives on things pertaining to matters of family, friends, work, bucket lists, social events like concerts, living preferences, favorite and least-favorite, foods, movies, music, and the like;
VI—Politics
Politics
[f] law, politics, and religion—although it is often advised to avoid politics and religion when in social situations, I believe there are certain circumstances where discussing various topics is appropriate.
We used to call it “civics”, but nowadays some call it “insurrection” and/or “spreading misinformation”; and, finally,
VII—Music (The Sonic Gallery)
Like I said earlier, the site was originally intended to be an exclusively musical domain, and I intend to still submit various music-related posts, with some being of my own original compositions, and other posts simply shout outs about upcoming events or milestone crossings ( i.e., birthdays, obituaries, concerts, recordings of performances, etc.).
Whether it’s an original or a cover, I want to tie in a post about the song as well.
Thus, it will either be a song written for a post, or a post written about a song.
So, this Home Page should clarify basically what topics I’ll be covering in Stage 2 of FloydAllen-Reflections.com.
For now, though, I think I’m going to exit this page and try to upload some content.
